British Remedy for Spiders
In Massachusetts

If you have an unwelcome supply of spiders -- which most country houses do - try this. In the fall buy chestnuts and place them around your baseboards, especially in corners. Not huge numbers of chestnuts, just a few here and there where you think spiders could be lurking, and it might be wise to get (and freeze) extra so you can put new ones down in the spring. You can usually begin to find chestnuts in the stores in late autumn, and they're usually available until February.

We'll tell you what we're doing here... then maybe you'll tell us what you're doing there.
